Short Experimental Film: 'Ashes and Ghost' wins at Bottlecap Awards

The short film featured, was created during A2 Film Studies at Newcastle under Lyme college for coursework without any experience of filming or editing. During that year, students from the College’s creative courses had there work submitted, the short film entries were judged by Phil Bland from local film production company Reels in Motion and Dan Hopkins, Senior Media Production Lecturer at Staffordshire University. The College invited a number of VIP guests including local independent film maker and former NULC creative student Chris Stone, former NULC IT student Martyn Lomax, who is now the Managing Director of Production Company Humanoid Productions Ltd. based in Media City and Will Herbert, Founder and Director of Calavera Café Productions. All of which selected 'Ashes and Ghost' for 'Best Experimental' and 'Overall Best Film' during the Heatwave Festival.

In 2014, the short film was again entered by film studies lecturer at Newcastle College, Verita Travaar-Williams into the 'Bottlecap Film Festival', a local awards ceremony that celebrates the best of UK filmmakers, and focuses on those 'work outside the mainstream, who would rather be cult than conventional.' Out of over 600 submissions 12 nominees were chosen as Ashes and Ghost went into the rising star categorie along with two other films. Fortunately the film won the award, below is an interview and pictures from the ceremony.
